” Five Self Defense Myths “

There is a basic of five self defense myths. Self-defense is one thing needed by all of us in society. Even though you live in a very peaceful place, in a place with low crime rate like Carlsbad CA, Encintas CA, North County San Diego CA or even in a place where you have the best police force, it is still important to learn self-defense. You can never be too sure when and where there is something bad that would happen. Although we always wish that we are safe, we could not afford to be complacent and it is always better to be prepared all the time. Learning self-defense however, has also its downside. It should be learned properly for it to be applied correctly. There are some myths about self-defense that people should be aware of and below are five of them:

Learning physical combat is the only way to defend your self – Self-defense are not always about the physical aspect because if so, people who are less physically strong do not have a chance of defending themselves against a bigger attacker. Though it is true that if you have the skills in combat you have an edge, it does not mean that is the only way to defend yourself. You could always use a pepper spray or anything that can be legally purchased and used for the same purpose. Sometimes being smarter than being physically stronger could be an advantage when it comes to self-defense.

Only women need self-defense since they are the only target – Majority of those who are attacked may be women but they are not the only ones who are always targeted. Men could also be attacked anytime so they should always be prepared too. No one is really spared from any attackers so everyone also needs to learn about self-defense. Also, as it goes the other way around, not all attackers are male.

All attackers have the same appearance – This is one of the biggest myths regarding self-defense. Not all robbers, thieves, or anyone with a bad intention have a similar “look”. It does not mean that if you see someone who does not have a tattoo, one who wears a suit, or one that seems to be a nice guy, they are not capable of doing any harm to others. Sometimes, it is a ploy that attackers dress up and look good to lure people into a trap.

Self-defense is only useful at night or at places with less people around – Anyone could get attacked on broad daylight and in places when there are many people. You won’t know when you could use your self-defense skills or strategies so you need to watch out. However, do not go to an extent wherein you will get paranoid all the time.

Self-defense could be learned overnight and could be taught in one course – There are different self-defense courses and each could be completely different from the other. Learning self-defense is continuous and it takes time. Be open to learning new things all the time because there could be different scenarios that you could encounter. Be sure though to avoid fake instructors as they are just after your money.

For men it is also very important as it gives you an unfair advantage over your attacker. The self defense program is based in a few segments. This involves numerous stand up holds and attacks, as well as a array of different throw or trips to get your opponent to the ground. Lastly is the ground work of Gracie ju-jitsu as this is what the art is known for. “Self Defense for Women in 5 steps”

When it comes to self defense for women, we have 5 basic steps for you to follow. Most women don’t even think about this on a day to day basis. These 5 things can and will help save your life if needed. So What Are the 5 things  a woman should know? Well the first thing is confidence, avoidance, awareness, confrontation, escaping.

Lets get to the details of these steps now!

Self Defense for Women.

Step # 1:

The first step in any situation is to be confident. How do we just be confident? We dont, that is why you have to seek out a martial art that suits you. When you learn something you will be confident in whatever it is, and martial arts will make you confident in defending yourself, so why not learn?

Step # 2:

Another very important step is to avoid situations that can put you in a bad spot. How do you do that? You should avoid dark places and walk down lit streets at night. When you go to unfamiliar places, make sure you go where there are lots of people, as apposed  to places that have very few people. Maybe run down on the beach, instead of a secluded woody pathway, with very few people.

Step # 3:

This step goes hand in hand with all the steps of self defense for women. By being aware you will understand your surroundings. It is very important to know when to not go somewhere because something does not look right, or to see an attack coming. So if we walk around not paying attention to our surroundings, you could be targeted by an attacker.

Step # 4:

When you are confronted, you better be prepared or the next step may not even matter! 95% of the time you will sense when an attack is coming. you have to act on those senses, your life depends on it. How do you act on something? Well if you have the opportunity, escape.  If not use the martial art’s you know to defend yourself to put you in a position to escape.

Step # 5

Always escape no matter what. The most important skill in self defense for women is to escape the situation. How do you do that? Well if it’s to late to run, then your confidence in  your martial arts better shine through now. Always try to strike before someone grabs you. If they get through that, which most men will be able to do, then you will have to break holds to get away.
